10 Times Star Trek Actors Got Arrested

9. George Takei

Star Trek Sulu
CBS

George Takei’s arrest is the most unique story on this list, as not only was he a child when it happened but he had committed no crime, other than the crime of being of Japanese descent. After the bombing of Pearl Harbour, thousands of Japanese-American citizens were rounded up and interred in camps, as they were deemed untrustworthy by the government.

Takei has written extensively about his experiences in the camp and of the fear, anger and ignorance that surrounded them. He described the feeling that as a child, he did not truly understand what was happening around him. He wrote and starred in the stage show, Allegiance, which details the events that took place in the camps, while also releasing a graphic novel named They Called Us Enemy about the matter as well.

Takei has long been a voice for equal rights, not least in the LGBTQIA+ community. His early experiences of his personal rights stripped away contributed in a large part to his activism, a passion that he shares with his husband Brad Altman.
