10 Times The Doctor Wasn't Very 'Doctory'

1. The Family Of Blood - Fates Worse Than Death

“Never cruel or cowardly” is one of the moral codes the Doctor says he stands by. However, the fate he bestows upon the Family of Bloody is rather cruel…

When the Doctor defeats the Family of Blood, Son of Mine says that he now realised why the Doctor, who fought gods and monsters, had fled from them: “it was a kindness”.

After everything they had done, the Doctor shows his wrath and deals punishment upon them, a separate one for each member of the Family. They desired immortality; the Doctor would grant this wish.

Father of Mine is bound in unbreakable chains forged at the heart of a dwarf star. Mother of Mine is sent into the event horizon of a collapsing galaxy, where she is imprisoned forever. Sister of Mine is trapped in every mirror in existence, where, once a year, the Doctor visits. Finally, Son of Mine is suspended in time and dressed as a scarecrow to watch over the fields of England.

At the end of all these fates, death maybe would have been kinder on them. This was the time the Doctor showed that he could be cruel, and that sometimes you shouldn’t cross the Last of the Time Lords.
