10 Times The Lucifer Show Referenced The Comics (And 10 Ways It Totally Ignored Them)

12. Mazikeen's Face (Easter Egg)

The second season's Halloween episode, Monster, finally gave us a brief shot of Mazikeen's true face, but the way it's treated is entirely antithetical to Mazikeen's comic roots.

In the comics, Mazikeen is very proud of her face. In fact, her primary plot line revolves around her efforts to restore her true face after a tragically misguided Jill Presto used the reality-warping power of the Basanos to change Mazikeen's face (which she thought was destroyed by a fire) into a symmetrical human face which conforms to what Lucifer refers to as Jill's "parochial aesthetics."

In the comics, Mazikeen feels violated and mutilated by the transformation of her natural face into one with stereotypically attractive human features, and she hides her ruined face behind her mask.

In the show, however, Maze seems to feel ashamed of her real face, and willingly alters it to be more pleasing to humans. She's even clearly apprehensive about how Trixie will react to her face, and passes it off as a Halloween mask when she finally shows it.

Maze's face looked great in this episode, but it's too bad the significance of her features was lost.
