The Simpsons, much like any show nearing seven hundred episodes, has occasionally fumbled an instalment ending or two (so what’s Family Guy’s excuse, then?).
But the closing scenes of the surreal The Frying Game really take the cake.
Written by reliably bizarre wit John Swartzwelder, this one sees the family adopt an endangered and extremely annoying “screamapillar”, only for all sorts of disconnected shenanigans to pursue, eventually concluding with Homer ending up in the electric chair.
It’s then that the entire episode's plot is revealed to be an outlandish reality show, complete with a bizarre Carmen Electra cameo, in what remains one of the show’s most audacious trolls.
