10 Times The Simpsons PREDICTED Future Technology

9. Hugh Parkfield's Smartwatch

Remember when machines were made to make our lives easier and now they've become "smart" and make us do more steps or remind us to exercise and sleep well?

Well, no modern day gadget is better at annoyingly reminding us to stay alive than the smart watch, an invention The Simpsons saw coming back in 1995. In Season 6, the episode titled Lisa's Wedding gives us a glimpse into Lisa's future as she attends a prestigious college and meets a charming (or so it seems) Englishman known as Hugh Parkfield. This episode predicts a lot of future technologies from automated librarians (more on this later) to face to face video chats but most notably, it's Parkfield's Smartwatch that stands out.

Sure, the design is very '90s and it makes a noise similar to the famous Star Trek communicator, but its simple use and the joy to be able to bark orders at a robot is remarkably in line with the smart watches that we use today.

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
