10 Times The Simpsons PREDICTED Future Technology

7. Malfunctioning Voting Machines

In Series 20, The Simpsons released the 19th Treehouse Of Horror episode with a dark introduction that came to fruition four years later.

The year is 2008 and the presidential race is in full swing between Barack Obama and John McCain. Donald Trump isn't on Twitter and miles away from The White House doors (sigh, simpler times). Interestingly Trump was actually a member of the Democratic Party during that time if you can believe it.

In the opening scene of this episode, Homer is in the voting booth and casts his ballot by clicking on Obama's name. The machine instead registers a vote for McCain much to Homer's annoyance. Moments later, Homer tries to escape as the ballot machine comes to life, drags him back into the booth and a pool of blood emerges beneath it.

Four years later, in the presidential race between Obama and Mitt Romney, voting machines in Pennsylvania had to be recalled because they were registering every Obama vote as a Romney one. The good news is nobody was reported to have been eaten by a voting machine and, as we know, the faulty machines didn't stop Obama from getting a second term.

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
