10 Times The Walking Dead Went Too Far

8. Negan's Entrance

What's worse about Negan's entrance, the fact that he killed both Abraham and Glenn in a truly brutal fashion, or the fact that the first death was left on a cliffhanger for an entire off-season in an extremely unsatisfying way?

Well, Negan killing both Abraham and Glenn was quite a smart move by the writers. Everyone knew the story behind Negan's introduction in the comics, so how can you keep that fresh? Make it so Negan kills two of Rick's group, truly solidifying him as a threat. Neither of the deaths hold back either, being an extremely violent show of force that was sure to traumatise Rick's entire group.

This is built upon by the premiere of the seventh season, a fantastic episode which saw Negan messing with Rick for the entire runtime. By the end of the episode Rick is a broken man and Negan can't help but laugh. The episode has the benefit of featuring some of the shows strongest acting from both Andrew Lincoln and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

But why on Earth was there a cliffhanger involved? It truly cheapened the deaths as they became less about the importance of what this meant for the group and instead became focused on trying to guess who would be receiving the bat.
