10 Times The Walking Dead Went Too Far
6. The CDC
The CDC marked the first major change from the comic storyline, as Rick led the group to the facility in hopes of finding information and possibly even a cure. Instead they found hopeless Dr. Edwin Jenner, who happily provided all the exposition regarding the world situation and progress on a vaccine.
While Edwin Jenner was a really interesting character and his insistence on suicide being the best option was compelling, introducing the CDC just makes Rick and his group feel so special. In the comic series the group really do start out as a ragtag group of survivors, having to find out everything they can through word of mouth and their own experiences.
The introduction of the CDC also sees Jenner tell Rick that everyone is infected, which Rick decides to keep to himself for an entire season. His reasoning is contrived and was clearly a decision made by the writers so that they could have a big reveal at the end of the second season. It just seems out of character for Rick not to tell anyone.
There is nothing wrong with making changes to the comic storyline, but this change sort of ruins the mystery of the apocalypse and its origins.
