10 Times War Broke Out Within The Doctor Who Fandom
4. The Malevolent Moffat
Ah, Steven Moffat. You knew he'd make an appearance on this list at some point, didn't you? Suffice to say, his tenure thus far at the reigns of Doctor Who has been as turbulent as the storylines he's created - if not even more so - and if there's one thing you can guarantee it's that for every critic singing him praise, there are 5 others campaigning for him to step down as showrunner before he destroys it completely. But just what is it about Steven Moffat's era of Doctor Who that continues to cause so much controversy? The ongoing debate of RTD vs Moffat is one that dominates the Doctor Who message boards and, believe it or not, there's a small minority of former fans that are so disgusted with what he's done with their once favourite programme that they've now stopped watching it altogether. To be pushed to such an extremity takes some serious doing and there are those that agree that the show is slowly being ruined under the helm of Steven while others don't really see what all the fuss is about. This is, of course, why the argument remains at the forefront of the community's conversation but the general consensus, as far as the Moffat haters are concerned, is that he generally creates plots that are overly complicated and then doesn't even end them with a worthy pay off. His supporters would say that he's trying to make everyone happy. Series 6 was arc heavy while Series 8 was made up of standalone stories but it seems like he can't do right for doing wrong anymore which is a real shame because his contributions during the Russell's reign are some of the most acclaimed episodes to date. One thing is for sure, though, as long as Moffat is Doctor Who's showrunner (he'll be around for Series 9 at least), the argument shall remain. It'll probably go on for a while after he's left, too.
