10 Times You Can't Believe South Park Actually Went There

8. Dedicated An Entire Episode To Swearing

South Park was immediately controversial due to its boorish satire and offensive slurs. But in the show's defence, it had the common courtesy to bleep out the more extreme expletives (at least for the first couple of seasons). But in Season 5's opening episode, It Hits the Fan, the creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, cranked up the vulgarity a notch by uncensoring the S-word.

However, the way they uncensored this swear was... a work of art. In the storyline, the people of South Park work themselves into a frenzy when they learn a character in the Chicago Hope TV series is going to utter the S-word. Throughout the episode, there is a counter on the bottom left corner of the screen, counting how many times this word is uttered. By the end, this obscenity is uttered a whopping 162 times (192 if you include all the times it appears in written form).

Even though the episode received over 5,000 complaints, it was, by no means, the most controversial thing South Park did, as the rest of this list will demonstrate.
