There were many weird and wonderful creatures that appeared on Earth between the time Fry entered the freezer tube and the time he left it. One of those was the only cyclops left in the entire universe, and Fry’s immediate love interest, Turanga Leela.

Throughout the first few seasons, there was no reason to believe that there was anything more to Leela’s backstory, aside from one blink and you’ll miss it moment from ‘I Second That Emotion’ in season two. If Leela is the only creature alive with one eye, then how come there were two mutants in the sewers with just the same ocular deficiency?

Of course, now we know that this couple was Munda and Morris, the mutant parents of Leela, herself being a mutant rather than an alien. It was an absolute revelation when her true origin was revealed in season four, but there has been a pretty telling clue revealed two years prior for all to see, it’s just that no one really noticed it.

Really, the secrecy surrounding the true identity of Leela's parents should have been redundant from this episode, but the show still got away with the big reveal two whole seasons later.
