10 Totally Unnecessary Deaths In Horror TV Shows

6. Elijah Mikaelson - The Originals

The Walking Dead Carl
The CW

Originally the antagonists of The CW's long-running hit The Vampire Diaries, Klaus Mikaelson and his family of ancient vampires became part of the supporting cast before spinning off to star in their own show, The Originals.

While the half-werewolf, half-vampire Klaus was the de facto leader due to being the most powerful, it was his older half-brother Elijah who fans were more devoted to.

With his hot temper and self-loathing arrogance, Klaus could play the anti-hero or the villain. Elijah, the family guardian, was his best friend - and occasionally his worst enemy, because as an honourable man with iron principles, Elijah was fearlessly, relentlessly devoted to redeeming his wayward younger brother of his sinful ways.

That's why the series finale of The Originals resonated so much to begin with. Determined to save his daughter from the Hollow, the evil spirit of the most powerful witch in history, Klaus planned to take that spirit into himself. Elijah would then stake him, assisting his brother in finally achieving the redemption he'd always wanted for him.

However, in a bizarre twist Elijah decided to die alongside Klaus, taking part of the Hollow into himself so that each brother would have to kill the other.

It never made a scrap of sense. If Elijah was determined to die he could have spared Klaus the sacrifice and allowed him to return to his daughter; if he was so devoted to the family, he should have stayed alive to look after her himself.
