10 TV Characters They Wanted You To Forget

2. Michael Scott - The Office

When Michael Scott left The Office during season seven, the show took a very noticeable downturn. Fans can love Jim, Pam, Dwight, and obviously Creed as much as they like, but Michael Scott was at the center of everything. It was his show.

After that heartwrenching episode in which Michael left the office and his chosen family behind, he was barely ever mentioned again. Understandably, the show just wanted to move on in its new, Steve Carrell-less form instead of dwelling on what it no longer had.

This was until the final episode however, when the former Regional Manager returned for the wedding of Dwight and Angela. His appearance was one of Jim’s gutenpranks for Dwight on his big day, and it came out of nowhere. It had to come out of nowhere to be as effective as it was, and having no one mention Michael for two years helped immensely.

The emotion of this moment truly banked on audiences keeping Michael as far from their thoughts as possible. Had anyone expected Steve Carrell to make an appearance, it still would have been a great Office moment, but nowhere near the iconic scene it ultimately was.
