10 TV Characters Viewers Completely Changed Their Mind About

8. Boyd Crowder - Justified

In many cases, the evolution of a character is simply the result of an actor€™s talents. Initially slated to die at the end of the pilot episode of Justified, audiences have instead found themselves transfixed by Walton Goggins' portrayal of Bowd Crowder over five seasons of the show. In interviews, Goggins admits he was hesitant to take the role of the racist hillbilly who blows up a black church with a rocket launcher. He only agreed when producers allowed him to tweak the character, and play up the schemer in Boyd. The decision to keep the charismatic Goggins on board allowed Boyd to become the most interesting character of the series. Boyd's near death experience in the pilot leads to a spiritual awakening, and watching Crowder consistently struggle with the man he is and the man he wants to be is fascinating, and often heartbreaking. And while Crowder does eventually give in to his fate and return to a life of crime, he is now well-read, well-spoken, and well-versed in the art of manipulation, as well as often being the most intelligent man in the room.
