10 TV Characters Who Deserved Better

7. Anya Jenkins - Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Lana Lang Smallville
Mutant Enemy

While we all have strong opinions on the characters that appeared throughout Buffy The Vampire Slayer's seven-season run, it's safe to say that everybody loved Anya.

Anya had quite the transformation during her time on the show, and her character development was truly unprecedented. Initially appearing as nothing more than a vengeance demon, the character developed into one of Buffy's strongest creations, and before long, viewers fell in love with her.

Her love for Xander - not to mention her irrational fear of bunnies - made her a fan-favourite character, which is why her blink-and-you'll-miss-it death during the final episode of the series was something of a disappointment. Perhaps it was Joss Whedon's intention to make us fall in love with the demon, before snatching her away from us in the finale, but even so, something about her death doesn't sit right. Sure, it was a war, and there were bound to be casualties, but Anya didn't need to be one of them.

For all the horrors that she had been through on the show, was it too much to ask that she receive a happy ending with Xander by her side?
