10 TV Characters Who Deserved Better

6. Shireen Baratheon - Game Of Thrones

Anyone who knows anything about Game Of Thrones will tell you about the show's penchant for killing off its own central characters. While it is upsetting for viewers, we dare say that the HBO drama is one of the only series in history that can easily get away with it, because the strong plotting always seem to justify the showrunners decisions to bring these respective characters' journey to a close.

However, GoT doesn't always succeed in this department, with Shireen Baratheon being an obvious example of the series going a bit too far. While you could make an argument that Shireen's narrative was due to conclude considering Stannis was set to be killed, something about the young girl's death didn't sit right with viewers.

Shireen was a rare source of positivity in the disturbing world of Westeros, and in spite of being afflicted with Greyscale, she proved to be one of the bravest characters the show had seen (which really says something when you think about how many heroic protagonists Game Of Thrones has seen), unafraid to speak her mind and voice her opinion at any given opportunity. Surely she was due a bit of happiness after such a sad life?

It wasn't just her death that riled viewers up, but rather the extreme way in which she was executed. The shocking moment not only made us weep for the young girl, but it was also the moment in which the world turned on her father Stannis, making his death in the subsequent episode all the more enjoyable. In a sense, Shireen's demise killed two heroes.
