10 TV Lines Actors Refused To Say

4. Robert Reed Wouldn't Smell Strawberries - The Brady Bunch

American Horror Story Apocalypse Kathy Bates

The Brady Bunch's Robert Reed, who portrayed family patriarch Mike Brady, was famously vocal throughout the series' tenure, enough that he even chose not to appear in what would be its final episode, due to feeling that the storyline in question was "stupid."

Reed also came to blows with Brady Bunch creator Sherwood Schwartz while shooting the season four episode "The Only Child," where Mike was scripted to walk into the kitchen while his wife Carol (Florence Henderson) was cooking strawberry preserves and say, "Wow! It smells like strawberry Heaven in here!"

Except, Reed believed that cooked strawberries didn't smell at all, and so declined to speak the line amid the belief that it was inaccurate to the culinary laws of the universe.

Schwartz tried to convince Reed in vain that cooked strawberries do in fact emit an odor, but ultimately had to settle for Reed saying, "I do believe I've died and gone to strawberry Heaven!"

There's refusing to speak a line on moral grounds and then there's... whatever the hell this pedantic nonsense is.
