10 TV Plotlines You Forgot Were Completely Abandoned
6. Rebecca And Sam's Baby (Cheers)
In Season 10 of Cheers, there's a major storyline where Sam and Rebecca decide they're going to have a baby together as friends. This was written in mainly because the actress playing Rebecca, Kirstie Alley, was pregnant in real life, so why not incorporate that into the series? It's a big part of the first few episodes of Season 10, and you'd think two of the main characters having a baby is going to be one of the season's primary storylines.
Instead, the baby arc was completely dropped, although in this case it's for a very sad reason: Kirstie Alley unfortunately had a miscarriage in real life. That left the writers in an awkward position where making Alley act out Rebecca's pregnancy or giving the character a miscarriage would be far too depressing, so they decided to just pretend this all never happened and hoped viewers would do the same.
When watching through the show on Netflix today, it's pretty confusing how the series just moves past this like it's nothing, but when doing a little research, it's easy to be sympathetic and understanding of why it couldn't be taken anywhere.
