10 TV Questions That STILL Have You Confused
6. What Was Inside The GS Ball? - Pokemon
Decades after Pokemon aired, fans are still ticked off how the anime never concluded one particular subplot.
When Ash Ketchum ventures to the Orange Islands, he's tasked with retrieving an artefact called the GS Ball. Nobody has been able to open this enigmatic Pokeball, nor does anyone know what lies inside. Though this subplot went on for a tedious 60+ episodes, Poke-purists kept tuning in, eager to learn what resided in the mysterious orb.
Unfortunately, everybody's still waiting, as once Ash brought the Ball to its destination, it never appeared again.
Almost a decade after this episode aired, director Masamitsu Hidaka explained how the GS Ball was meant to contain the time-travelling Pokemon, Celebi. After revealing itself, the timey-wimey creature was supposed to play a big role in later episodes. When Celebi's debut was repurposed for the Pokemon 4Ever movie, the GS Ball story arc was abandoned.
Okay, that's disappointing, but at least the mystery is solved, right?
Not exactly. Since Celebi's backstory was changed, there's no canonical answer to what's contained in the GS Ball. If the creators concocted another explanation, this plot hole could've been fixed. Instead, the GS Ball vanished anticlimactically, allowing the mystery to linger indefinitely.
