10 TV Scenes You Didn't Realise Were Tricking You

8. Kate Winslet's Pursuit Of Authenticity Didn't Include Meat And Onions - Mare Of Easttown

Stranger Things

While it pretty much went unnoticed by the vast majority of folks who tuned into the relentlessly gripping small town drama unfolding within HBO's Mare of Easttown, those native to Philadelphia were likely left ripping their hair out once it eventually became clear that Kate Winslet's titular Mare wasn't actually chomping down on a traditional hoagie during the crime series.

With the Oscar-winning Brit being very much a vegetarian, the decision was made to make every hoagie on show be meatless. And on top of this butty blasphemy, Winslet also confessed to stripping the iconic sandwich of its onion element, too!

Winslet's justification for this latter move centred around the star wanting to keep the set from stinking to the point of torture for the cast and crew, admitting to NYTimes, "it basically wasn’t fair on the crew to have all this stinky onion food on our tiny set all day long.”

All of the deli deception in the world still couldn't keep the understandably impressed locals from naming a hoagie after Mare herself in the end, however, with Winslet's ridiculously immersive turn as the flawed detective captivating just about everyone who tuned in.
