Shortly after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier aired, rumours began swirling that the Marvel series received a mid-production overhaul, with a storyline involving the heroes attempting to prevent a disease outbreak being scrapped due to its similarities to the then-raging COVID-19 pandemic,

For more than two years, most everyone involved with the show refuted these rumours, but the recently released retrospective book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios revealed that the virus plot was indeed real, and that the pandemic made it "feel a bit too close to reality."

Though creator Malcolm Spellman still insists that the subplot wasn't abandoned mid-filming due to the pandemic, the end result is the same either way.

And given that the show was roughly two-thirds of the way through filming before the pandemic shutdown, it's fair to assume that a sizeable amount of material for the virus plot had indeed been shot, but now resides only in Disney's archive where it's destined to collect digital dust forevermore.
