10 TV Show Finales That Totally Divided Fanbases

Since finishing, Lost has ironically become Lost in the annals of pop-culture history, or, at least, it would've been if it wasn't for the perplexing conclusion that still comfortably lives rent-free in the heads of many.

Before JJ Abrams was radicalising the beloved Star Wars franchise and manipulating it into his own misconstrued vision, he was manipulating audiences in this mind-bender of a series.

One thing that fans were able to conjugate themselves, though, was the speculation of how it was all going to end. As most were expecting the tried, tested and habitually tired "it was all a dream" cop-out that had been prevalent in many shows before. To which the production team disputed at every Q&A (this was long before the days of Twitter after all).

The result is an engaging, but an ambiguous exploration of most characters' fate, one that's almost adjacent in concept to the "dream" scenario. Once the curtain is pulled back and the truth revealed - that they are in fact in the afterlife in the last scenes - the reactions ranged from confused, yet satisfied, all the way to moderately annoyed.
