Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Spongebob Squarepants. Who tries to turn your kids gay by normalizing homosexuality? Also Spongebob Squarepants, at least according to those who accuse the show of being part of a conspiracy to turn Ukrainian children into criminals and perverts.

Once considered the height of all evil children’s programming by the Ukranian National Expert Commission for Protecting Public Morality, Spongebob has weathered his share of controversies over the years. Oddly enough, most of the boycotts surrounding the show have to do with the fact that Spongebob is pushing a homosexual agenda. Proof of this comes from the fact that Spongebob himself is gay, as evidenced by the fact that he likes to laugh, have fun, and hold hands with his male friend, Patrick.

Many right-wing groups have called for boycotts of the show, with one – a group called Focus on the Family – going so far in 2005 as to release a video by its founder, James Dobson, outing the show as one that is “brainwashing kids” with a “pro-homosexual” agenda. While this should be considered nothing but hilarious, unfortunately Spongebob creator Stephen Hillenburg legitimized the claims by denying them, calling the character “asexual,” a fact that we definitely didn’t need to know about a fictional cartoon sponge who cooks hamburgers for a living.
