10 TV Shows That Aired Their Worst Ever Episode In 2015
4. 4.1 & 4.2 - Luther
Original Air Date: 15/22 December, 2015 Luther's long-awaited fourth season consisted of just two episodes; they're so closely connected, however (they might as well be a single episode), that for the purposes of this article they're going to be considered as such. Luther, created by Neil Cross (who writes all the episodes, including these two), started off well in its first season, but ever since has pretty much gotten by on the strength of its lead actor alone. The plots have become increasingly mental and the show has struggled to be clever in the way that it thinks it is. The episodes that make up season four of this once likeable show are without question its worse, bringing new meaning to "jump the shark." Luther has always embraced a semi-heightened sense of reality, of course; the series has clung to a pulpy tone ever since it first aired back in 2009. And yet here things are ridiculous to the point of parody, as the titular hero - played admirably by Idris Elba - comes out of "retirement" to try to catch - wait for it - another serial killer. Sounds juicy, right? Unfortunately, these episodes mark Luther at its most trite and plodding. It takes forever to get to anything meaty. There's nothing to see here, ultimately, save for Elba's performance, because we're just going through the motions.
