9. Barney And Robin Living Happily Ever After - How I Met Your Mother
Early on in the life of CBS' How I Met Your Mother, fans were pretty much conditioned to assume that Ted Mosby and Robin Scherbatsky would NOT be getting together in the end. Hell, the first episode even seemed to hammer home the point by revealing that this was how the lead character met his kids' "Aunt Robin".
Then, as the series unfolded and after the pair dated for a spell, it soon became abundantly clear that it was in fact serial womaniser Barney Stinson who was destined to spend the rest of his days with Robin. The pair even went on to tie the knot and appeared to be set for a lifetime of happiness together as Season 9 entered its last episodes...
Things would then take a rather unexpected, and unwanted, turn in the final two episodes as it was shockingly revealed that Barney and Robin went their separate ways after three years of marriage. We then see Ted be urged into asking out "Aunt Robin" by the kids he's been torturing with this epic tale, despite the fact the series had thoroughly highlighted why Robin should've ended up with Barney instead!
