10 TV Shows That Killed Off Unhappy Actors

9. Chevy Chase - Community

George Death Greys Anatomy
NBC

Despite only some good reviews for its first season, Community has gone on to become one of the most celebrated and popular sit-coms of all time. Characters such as the childish Jeff Winger, over-achiever Annie Edison and intelligent but emotionally reserved Abed Nadir have become pop culture icons thanks to their presence on the show.

On the show, Chevy Chase plays Pierce Hawthorne. Pierce is an old millionaire who finds life boring so enrols in some classes at the community college. Chevy Chase is great as Pierce, who at his core is a horrible and old fashioned guy with some offensive views on gender and race. Chase brings a likeability to the role, however, and remains a fan favourite to this day.

Unfortunately, Chase didn't make it to the end of the show. Behind the scenes, he had a tough time playing the outspoken Pierce and often clashed with showrunner Dan Harmon. Chase found his character too offensive and unlikable, and wanted some character development. After a particularly bad day he went into a tirade against Harmon which saw him use a racial slur in front of the cast and crew.

Afterwards, Chase only appeared in a handful of episodes and was abruptly killed off near the end of Season Four, as per an agreement made between Chase and the producers.

It was sad to see and his presence was missed in the final seasons, and to top off the escapade, Chase doesn't take part in reunions and its mostly unknown how his former cast mates - all of whom are still said to be close - feel about him and the events leading to his abrupt departure. All the same, he is missed by Community's legions of fans, and his character will forever live on.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
