Now, it would be ridiculous to deny the immense popularity of The Lord of the Rings franchise, and so, there was always going to be intense "passion" about Amazon's The Rings of Power TV series no matter its quality.

Yet the discourse became tiring in record time, from the usual suspects whinging about "woke" diverse casting, to those who felt that the writing simply wasn't consistent with J.R.R. Tolkien's established lore.

But by the time its first season wrapped up, The Rings of Power had cemented itself as an aggressively acceptable piece of entertainment and nothing more - neither bad, nor terribly good either.

Fans of any IP are inevitably going to get extremely worked up about everything, but ultimately this watchable slice of fantasy froth really didn't demand the endless think-pieces and hate-filled rants that were written in its name.

Channel all that energy into something actually worth spiking your blood pressure over - not a Very OK TV show.
