10 TV Shows To Watch If You Love Buffy The Vampire Slayer

7. The Magicians

iZombie CW
NBC

For those who loved the college years of Buffy and Willow's mastery of magic, The Magicians will fit like a glove. The series follows Quentin Coldwater and his arrival at Brakebills University to train as a magician. He meets with an assortment of fellow trainee magicians who round out the show's colourful ensemble. It's especially important to have allies when it turns out Quentyn's beloved fantasy book series Fillory and Further is in fact real and a lot more sinister than expected.

The series is rooted in an ever-expanding, layered mythology with a fun, likeable cast of characters to explore it with. For fans of Once More, With Feeling, The Magicians also has multiple musical episodes. Its general humour and diverse array of perspectives keep it charming and engaging throughout.

Despite the premise being slightly derivative initially, the series' remarkable special effects, knack for imaginative plotting and glib humour make it a suitably spellbinding take on the world of magic. A huge hit for Syfy, The Magicians ran through various fantastical story arcs over 5 seasons, capping off its run on an explosive (literally) finale last year.
