3. Girls - Hannah Keeps The Baby

Lena Dunham's wonderful drama series probably should've had a low-key finale in which the characters exhibited a little growth and continued to live their lives past the end credits.

Unfortunately Dunham instead sprung for sappy melodrama in Girls' final season, with her protagonist Hannah having to deal with a surprise pregnancy. While Dunham's liberal attitude prompted many fans to expect Hannah to either get an abortion or place the baby up for adoption, she in fact ends up keeping the tot (and naming him Grover, of course).

Hannah gives birth in the series finale, which focuses on her attempting to get Grover to breastfeed. The main problem is that Dunham uses the baby as a plot device to suggest that Hannah has become more of an adult, despite this being entirely unearned given her narcissistic behaviour throughout the rest of the season.

It's as though Dunham wanted to make a feminist statement about Hannah's ability to "have it all", even though her personality, behaviour and circumstances didn't realistically reflect that.
