Lost has a reputation as one of TV's most confusing series for a reason.

The Island played mind games with more than just its inhabitants, as the show weaved a convoluted narrative across its six-season run. Time travel, alternate dimensions, talking birds. All of it was fair game for Lost and people loved and hated the show in equal measure.

Regardless of how people felt about the show, everybody wanted to know the same thing - what the hell was going on? Unfortunately, this question was never fully answered.

Upon the conclusion of its final episode, fans and critics alike were still left wondering about a lot of things. The mystery numbers, the giant wheel, Walt. All of these gaps needed filling, but the showrunners never did.

Some fans would argue that the whole point of Lost is to not know what's going on. It's meant to subvert expectations and mess with your ideas of reality, so answers to these questions cannot and should not exist.

However, on the whole, people just wanted to know what was going on and the fact that they never found out left many to query if even the writers themselves had any clue what The Island was all about.
