10 TV Shows You Should NEVER Watch Alone

2. Penny Dreadful

American Horror Story
Showtime

This world wasn't good enough for a show as great as Penny Dreadful.

The term penny dreadful was used to describe pulp 19th-century British publications that covered sensational topics. As a series, Penny Dreadful drew not just its name but its content and tone from those stories.

Set in Victorian era London, there were several characters from public domain Gothic fiction: Dorian Gray, Mina Harker, Count Dracula. That should give you an idea of the type of shoe you're watching. It was dark, brooding and sometimes scary, but it was always a superb show. Critics got behind it, as did some die hard fans, but it never quite got the mainstream support it deserved.

Then again, it wasn't really a mainstream show.
