10 TV Shows You Should Stop Watching Before The Final Season
5. Prison Break
Prison Break is easily one of the worst culprits for death-reversals, but bringing it back for Season Five was still a shocking reach even by their standards.
Michael not only had terminal brain cancer that was meant to kill him, but then he also electrocuted himself to save his wife and brother. There was a headstone and everything. So at the end of Season Four he was definitely dead, right?
Oh you sweet, naïve angel. Of course not: death means nothing in TV!
After a clear ending in season four, the show returned as a kind of sequel to itself for Season Five years later in 2017. The revival took place a few years after the season finale and brought back some of the main characters from previous years, including the (very alive) Michael, but it just wasn’t the same.
The supposed ending from before felt way too definitive for some fans to reinvest their attention afterwards, and the few new characters felt kind of hollow and unformed.
For a show that had been heading south for a while before its initial ending, it was a pretty bold move to bring it back and do so without the entire ensemble of fan favourites and with several glaring plot holes.
There are definitely some fans out there that enjoyed the season for what it was, but for others Season Four was the true ending and anything beyond that was just dragging it out. We’re best taking Four as the true ending and leaving Season Five to those who want it, more as an added extra than necessary canon.
