10 TV Side Characters We Loved More Than The Main Character
4. Tyra - Friday Night Lights
Though Friday Night Lights is predominantly about the Dillon Panthers High School football team, the supporting characters who inhabit the Texas town certainly get their chance to shine, and none are more lovable than class pretty girl-come-headstrong-badass Tyra.
Introduced to audiences as the gorgeous girlfriend of resident dirtbag Tim Riggins, Tyra spends much of the show's first season as a friend of Coach's daughter Julie Taylor and foe of head cheerleader Lyla Garrity. Early episodes focus largely on star quarterback Jason Street's recovery from a career-ending spine injury and Coach Taylor's fight to make the state championship with unlikely hero Matt Saracen under centre, so Tyra's development takes a backseat. However, we begin to learn more about her towards the end of season one, and after she's shockingly assaulted we are reintroduced to a more mature character as the show continues.
Her ambitions lie far from the confines of Dillon, Texas, and after a budding relationship with Saracen's plucky pal Landry, she departs for college a changed woman from the one we were introduced to.
Tyra's place in the show never eclipses the Dillon Panthers football team, but there's no denying she quickly becomes the most compelling, and lovable character of them all.
