10 TV Side Characters We Loved More Than The Main Character
3. Ari Gold - Entourage
Ari Gold is the kind of man we love to watch on the TV screen, but would loathe if we were ever to meet such a narcissistic jackass. Yet, from the comfy confines of the couch he's an immensely lovable silver-tongued devil who makes even the worst seasons of HBO's Entourage that much more watchable.
Entourage follows movie superstar Vinnie Chase and his pals as they strut through the sunny Los Angeles scenery dealing with the Hollywood machine and all it can offer a young, impressionable man. Vinnie is naïve, and often needs people to make his decisions and plot his moves for him. He's an unconventional protagonist for sure, but his lack of maturity allows other characters time to shine, and Jeremy Piven's Ari Gold never shies away from the opportunity.
He's brash, unapologetically rude and profoundly amusing, and it's clear that Piven enjoys Gold's narcissistic self as much as viewers do. From his 'fatherly' (but also not fatherly at all) relationship to Vinnie to his strictly platonic, yet almost abusive relationship with assistant Lloyd Lee, we're constantly unsure of how Ari Gold will deal with any given situation.
What we do know, is that it'll be spectacular TV viewing.
