10 TV Side Characters We Loved More Than The Main Character
2. Gina Linetti - Brooklyn Nine Nine
"The human form of the 100 emoji."
Brooklyn Nine Nine is a largely formulaic TV show that places its people at the forefront, and as such is perhaps the greatest 'switch your brain off and enjoy' series ever made. The character interactions in Brooklyn's 99th NYPD precinct are simply wonderful, from Charles Boyle's pathetically submissive self to Rosa Diaz' no-nonsense, tough persona, the stark differences in each character makes every conversation a chuckle-worthy one.
Though the entire cast frequently offers side-splittingly hilarious moments throughout Brooklyn Nine Nine's 7 seasons, it's Gina Linetti, Captain Holt's assistant and thorn in his side, who shines the brightest with unrelenting self-confidence, largely undeserved ego and a personality that is so damn extra, so damn often.
Chelsea Peretti's background in comedy is evident, as she makes the role entirely her own, and is uniquely amusing amongst a talented cast of comedic geniuses. Samberg's Jake Peralta and Melisa Fumero's Amy Santiago may be the series' main characters, but Gina has to be among the show's most lovable.
Gina Linetti is an icon, and one that should be appreciated every time the screen is blessed with her presence.
