2. Bloody Face/ Dr. Oliver Thredson (Zachary Quinto) 'Asylum'

Hooray, you all cheer at the end of 'Asylum' episode 5 'I Am Anne Frank:Part 2', as our heroine Lana Winters is saved by knight in shining armour Dr. Thredson. Alas, this is Horror Story and no one is ever what they seem! Dr. Thredson/Bloody Face is an articulate and sympathetic man, with a skill for making human skin lamps and cranial mint bowls (Now available in John Lewis).

A victim of the system, Oliver Thredson is abandoned by his mother at a young age and forced to live in an orphanage. After starting a prosperous career in medicine his first signs of delusion are shown as he identifies the body of a woman. Longing for the touch of a mother, he undresses and lies on top of the corpse. Thredson was originally brought to Briarcliffe to judge Kit Walker's innocence, but began to develop an interest in the case of Lana Winters. Elements of his creepy persona lurked in 'I Am Anne Frank: Part 2' as his conversion/aversion therapy resulted in Lana being forced to touch herself and alarm bells rang as he withdraws a picture of her former lover, revealing he had been to her house. By the time episode 6: 'The Origins of Monstrosity' starts, he is in fully Bloody Face mode. He keeps Lana hostage in his love dungeon, raping her and creating his bastard incest son Johnny Morgan, A.K.A. Bloody Face 2.

What a relief it is to see is that the mid point of the season isn't the end of Dr. Thredson, he continues to be a large presence at Briarcliffe and Lana cannot prove his guilt until the closing episodes of the entire season; his twisted ways carry on and he isn't simply discarded in favour of the Bloody Face persona. Both Thredson boys are responsible for some of the most memorable scenes in 'Asylum', the episode 'Milk' springs to mind and means you will never think of breast feeding with an innocent mind again.
