10 Underhyped TV Shows That Blew Everyone Away

Matt Groening created comedy gold when he brought The Simpsons to 20th Century Fox, so it stands to reason that anything else the animator wanted to do would get the green light at the network. Enter, Futurama in 1999, and Fox had a new potential hit on its hands.

Unfortunately, this was during a time when all of the executives at the Fox network were bumbling idiots, and they hated the show. As a result, there was almost no hype at all in support of Futurama. It was placed in a lousy timeslot that saw it preempted by NFL games every Sunday, and barely any marketing was done to promote it.

Futurama was about a young man named Phillip J. Fry, who accidentally fell into a cryogenic tube, and was awakened 1,000 years in the future. The crazy landscape of New New York and all the zany characters resonated with fans of The Simpsons, but also fans of Sci-fi.

In the end, Fox canceled Futurama, but fan outcry brought it back (It was once more canceled). Finally, it found its way to Adult Swim, where it was given a proper sendoff.

In the end, Futurama had seven seasons, 140 episodes, 12 Emmy Award nominations, six Emmy wins, Writers Guild of America Awards, and many more. Futurama is arguably one of the best animated series ever made, and because Fox executives didn't like it, it was criminally underhyped in the beginning.
