10 Unintentionally Funny Doctor Who Moments

1. The Moon Hatches - Kill The Moon

Kill The Moon had genuinely great ambitions. It was trying to deconstruct the relationship between the Doctor and his companion, specifically a more morally ambiguous incarnation like Peter Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor. That final scene between him and Clara Oswald in the TARDIS is still a fantastic piece of television.

But the rest of the episode is let down by just one phrase. "The moon is an egg". And it's apparently hatching.

Much like In The Forest of the Night, the audience is both asked to accept something pretty ludicrous as part of the episode's story and sees that this revelation has no real lasting consequences.

After the Doctor, Clara and friends have escaped the collapsing surface of the Moon, they watch from an Earth beach as a giant space creature emerges from the "shell" of its former egg. It then somehow immediately lays a new one that seems to be bigger than its own body, which all happens off camera, and flies away. This is just as stupid as it sounds and the whole thing comes across a total joke, even down to the Doctor's assertion that this will reinvigorate the human race's love of space travel.

Sure, Doctor. If you say so.
