10 Unintentionally Funny Doctor Who Moments

2. The Shirtless Doctor Gets Tortured - Dalek

Dalek is one of the best episodes ever to feature the Doctor's arch nemeses. The tone is dark and brooding, seeing the Doctor face off against both a villain that he thought long dead and the opportunistic billionaire Henry Van Statten. So why exactly was it necessary to have The Doctor chained up and with his shirt off for one scene?

The episode cuts between Rose Tyler and Adam Mitchell casually flirting and a sado-masochistic torture scene, with Van Statten attempting to uncover the secrets of the Doctor's alien physiology by force. It's clearly a sequence that's meant to show just how evil Van Statten is, and how desperate the Doctor is to stop him from inadvertently freeing the Dalek from its bonds.

But the way that Van Statten hungrily stares at the Doctor just gives the scene an oddly sexual vibe that seems extremely out of place, even in a more mature episode of Who. It's also never mentioned at all for the rest of the episode, which is probably for the best.

Owen Davies hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
