10 Most Unjust Cancellations In TV History

7. Twin Peaks

Twin Peaks Like Special Agent Dale Cooper's coffee, Twin Peaks was damn good! Many obviously agreed as during its first season Twin Peaks was one of the most watched television shows on the air, and one of the most critically-acclaimed as well. It seemed as if everyone was asking the same question: who killed Laura Palmer? As the series went on and more of the eccentric townsfolk's secrets were revealed viewers found themselves with even more questions surrounding this mysterious dead girl. Being the creation of David Lynch, Twin Peaks was nothing short of strange yet wonderful. It took home two Golden Globes and secured eighteen Emmy nominations taking home two for costume design and editing. With an original concept taking flight due to incredible direction, ensemble acting, and superb writing while being well-reviewed by just about anyone watching what possibly could have gone wrong? This one can be chalked up to executive meddling. As the second season began production ABC couldn't help but meddle. They pushed Lynch and crew into prematurely revealing Laura Palmer's killer's identity subsequently throwing off the anticipatory build-up. Many storylines were changed including Cooper's budding romance with the sexy, mischievous schoolgirl turned sleuth Audrey Horne. Due to this many fans were noticeably unhappy as ratings dropped considerably during the mid-season. ABC thereafter put the show on hiatus but Twin Peaks retained a strong enough fanbase to persuade them to finish the season. Unfortunately, it ended on a cliffhanger that was never entirely resolved. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me - a prequel to the series - was released which tied up some loose ends regarding Laura Palmer's dealings with the evil in the town of Twin Peaks. The cliffhanger ending, however, wasn't quite resolved and never really will be. David Lynch has stated that Fire Walk With Me would be the last Twin Peaks project leaving the series dormant. It still remains its cult status after all these years and still remains one of the greatest productions to ever hit television sets.
