10 ‘Unsolved’ Mysteries From Lost (That Have Really Simple Answers)
9. Who Built The Statue?
The Mystery: My personal favourite mystery in Lost was the four toed statue. After Season 2 kept its sights primarily on Dharma and the science of the Island, for the finale to plant the seeds of something more mystical shook fans who thought we were close to understanding it all. Such a haunting image led to all sorts of theories as to what the rest of the effigy may be - a time travelling Sawyer who lost his little toe, the founder of the Other race - but in the end the answer was (sort of) realistic; the statue is of Taweret, the Egyptian Goddess of fertility and childbirth. But even though the show took us back pretty far, we never got an answer to who built it. The Simple Solution: The Egyptians built it. The subject of the statue really should be all thats needed to solve this, but it seems some fans really wanted a definitive answer. Eventually it was confirmed on the Lost Podcast it was built by early Egyptian settlers (probably in tribute to the Islands magical effects on fertility in males), but given the amount of other Egyptian imagery (the Temple in particular, but all of the Island are covered in hieroglyphics) it feels a bit unnecessary to be pointed out.
