10 Upcoming Comic Book TV Shows You Need To Know About

1. Preacher

It was a close call, what with Sex Criminals being announced just last week (albeit without any concrete info about who's involved and where it might end up), but there's really only one upcoming comic book TV show you really need to know about. A cult classic for decades that's been stuck in development hell for almost as long, no less than divine intervention appears to have got Preacher on track at last. Perhaps less divine intervention, and more the considerable pull of Seth Rogen and writing partner Evan Goldberg. The pair have teamed up to write the pilot and executive produce an AMC series based off of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's Vertigo series, about a priest who is given the power of a god and goes in search of His Creator in the run-up to a full scale wall against Heaven and Hell. If that sounds a little heavy for Rogen, don't worry. It's far more This Is The End than that synopsis makes it sound. Previously Kevin Smith was working on Preacher as a movie, which would've tipped it a bit too far into straight comedy (or just, well, Dogma), and Sam Mendes almost did it as a film too, which might've been too serious. Preacher is a perfect mix of the sacred and profane, with as much high-stakes religious conflict as characters called €œArse Face€, so named because...well, you figure it out. No casting has been announced yet, besides Rogen saying he's only writing and not acting, but him and Goldberg seem the right men for the job. And if it means a wider audience gets to enjoy the delights of Cassidy the Irish vampire, all power to them.
