10 Upcoming Horror TV Shows That Will Scare The S**t Out Of You

3. Uzumaki

Even the most avid horror aficionado may not have heard of Uzumaki, but this three-volume Japanese horror manga is about as disturbing as they come.

Translated as "spiral", Uzumaki tells the story of the people of Kurouzu-cho, a fictional Japanese city which is beset by an otherworldly curse that causes the townspeople to go insane over an ever-increasing obsession with spiral patterns, seeing them in everyday objects, in hair, in weather patterns, and in the animals and people around them.

The creepy visuals and disturbing horror premise of Uzumaki present a fear so vivid to so many of us that it hits rather too close for comfort. Those with trypophobia -- the fear, or intense revulsion, of patterns of holes -- will have particular sympathy, but the uncontrollable haunting of objects and patterns taps into our fear response on a broader, primordial level that permeates all of society.

Befitting of the source material, the new TV series is set to be presented in black and white animation that adopts the style of the manga, and is set to debut, as a four episode TV miniseries on Adult Swim, in 2023.
