Edgar Allan Poe's The Fall Of The House Of Usher may not be the first thing you think of when someone says "s**t your pants scary", but the new adaptation coming to Netflix may well change that for good.

Drawn from several of Poe's works, and spanning eight episodes, the show will tell dark, blood-soaked tales of madness, isolation, and shifting metaphysical identities. The Fall Of The House Of Usher itself will be narrated by a man invited to visit his childhood friend Roderick Usher (played by Bruce Greenwood), whose twin sister Madeline (Mary McDonnell) has been placed in the family vault before her time.

The Gothic master's poetry and short stories may not hold the same punch for the modern reader as they did for those in the 19th century, but there is still a lot of pure, dark gold to be mined from between those pages. Never one to rest on his laurels, Mike Flanagan is at it again (again!), this time revitalising Poe for a new generation, with a host of his regular cast members, including Carla Gugino, Kate Siegel and Zach Gilford, along for the ride.

Production wrapped during summer this year, but given the close proximity of Flanagan's The Midnight Club, it is unlikely that House Of Usher will hit screens until the new year. We'll just have to keep the edge of our seats warm until then.
