10 Upcoming New Sci-Fi TV Shows To Be Excited About
8. The 100 Prequel
The 100 is unquestionably one of the most underrated shows in recent television history and, by far, the most consistent on The CW. And even though the end is in sight, it's looking like there's still more story to be told - story that surprisingly takes place in the past.
While the current show is set 97 years after a nuclear apocalypse, the spin-off will serve as a prequel series, bridging the gap between then and now in order to fully explore what happened in the immediate aftermath of the aforementioned apocalypse.
Though it hasn't officially been greenlit yet, the prequel will be introduced as backdoor pilot in 'Anaconda' - one of the episodes of The 100's seventh and final season penned by showrunner Jason Rothenberg. Should the response to it be positive and the ratings be strong enough, it could very well get picked up by the network.
The CW does well with spin-offs, turning what could have been one-series stories into a whole franchise. It isn't always for the best but all you have to do is look at Legacies (a third-generation Vampire Diaries spin-off that spawned from The Originals) or any of the current Arrowverse shows to see that it knows how to capitalize on successful properties. With that in mind, it wouldn't be too out-there to expect it to pick up The 100's prequel series.
