Set to be brought to life by the ever-brilliant Tim Burton - who gave up directing the cult 1991 Addams Family movie so he could helm Batman Returns - Wednesday is set to air this year and tell a coming-of-age mystery comedy with the family's middle child taking centre stage.
Sure to have at least some fans due to the names behind him, including a well-cast Jenna Ortega in the title role, the glaring issue with Wednesday is that it's not an Addams Family vehicle, but a spin-off simply focussing on one member.
Though Wednesday is arguably the most popular of the family's rogues gallery, the truth is none of the characters really work without each other, their destructive and macabre relationships forming the bulk of the comedy that brings to life their endearing twistedness and eccentricities.
It might end up being fun, but the lack of major involvement from the rest of the Addams clan is definitely not what audiences are after on paper. Here's to hoping Burton proves us wrong.
