10 Upcoming TV Shows That Are Already Doomed

8. Severance (Season 2)

There's no denying that audiences are becoming increasingly tired of the lengthy wait times between seasons of high-concept/prestige TV shows - an issue which has also been unavoidably exacerbated by the impact of last year's Hollywood strike action.

But beyond that already considerable production hurdle, Apple's hit sci-fi thriller series Severance has also had to contend with a glut of behind-the-scenes drama.

The second season began filming in October 2022, and last summer reports emerged that shooting had been slowed by creative disagreements between showrunners Dan Erickson and Mark Friedman as well as script issues and, as a result, a ballooning budget.

Producer-director Ben Stiller nevertheless attempted to downplay the reports, but because those apparent issues aren't enough, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes also mean that season two still hasn't finished shooting, more than 15 months (!) after cameras first rolled.

It's been suggested that filming is set to conclude around the end of February, and going by the first season's lengthy eight months of post-production, it's entirely possible that season two won't premiere until late 2024 or even early 2025.

As brilliant and rightly acclaimed as the first season was, it's tough not to consider whether the audience will still be there for season two almost three years on.

It wouldn't be remotely surprising if season two's rating figures are a mere fraction of the first, which would in turn surely cause Apple to cancel it. We can only hope and pray not.
