Friday the 13th fans have been waiting for an official new entry into the hit slasher franchise ever since 2009's relatively successful remake, due to the rights to the IP getting caught up in thorny legal limbo.

But with the matter somewhat resolved recently, in late 2022 it was announced that Hannibal's Bryan Fuller is developing a Friday the 13th prequel TV series called Crystal Lake in collaboration with studio A24.

Even with the series' original heroine, Adrienne King, being confirmed to appear and Scream scribe Kevin Williamson set to pen an episode, it's really, really tough to get excited about this, even as a fan desperate to see something new from the series.

After all, a Friday the 13th prequel suggests that Jason Voorhees won't be in it - at least not in his murderous capacity.

And honestly, what's the point without him? Plus, given that we all know Jason's backstory and how the Camp Crystal Lake killings began, what's really left to tell?

Most fans really just want a new movie, not a half-baked TV prequel.
