Star Trek fans have certainly been on quite the wild ride during the first two seasons of Star Trek: Picard - a frustrating series that's only sometimes delivered on the promise of a nostalgic epilogue to Jean-Luc Picard's (Patrick Stewart) story.

But the upcoming third and final season will be pushing the nostalgia bait harder than ever before, given that the season will reunite Picard with almost the entire former crew of the USS Enterprise for one last go-around.

As much as fans want to believe that this season will give them a fitting farewell to Picard, considering the wildly inconsistent quality of the first two seasons, it's far more reasonable to expect a rough ride to the end.

The trailer suggests more of the schlocky action that defined the first two seasons and little of the nuanced episodic storytelling and robust character work that made The Next Generation a hit in the first place.

In the very least, no matter how it turns out, it'll be comforting knowing that this is the end of the story.

Picard season 3 premieres on Paramount+ on February 16.
