10 US Adaptations Of UK TV Shows That Didn't Make It Past The Pilot
1. The IT Crowd
There are few shows that can boast the talent that The IT Crowd had. From Brass Eye's Chris Morris to his on-screen offspring Matt Berry, there was absolutely nothing like it on TV at the time. While it didn't fare too well on original airing, it's become a cult classic and still has a very strong fan base.
Of all the shows on this list, The IT Crowd is the only one that showed any real promise. Pulling Joel McHale fresh from his time as Jeff Winger on Community was a smart move.
His highly sarcastic brand of humour would have been a great fit for a character like Roy. Richard Ayoade would reprise his fan-favourite role as Moss, providing a valid link to the UK series.
However, it wasn't meant to be. The pilot managed to impress NBC who ordered a full season to be aired in the late 2000's, but it would never be made. Despite having multiple scripts ready, the network pulled the plug on the show stating the new chairman, Ben Silverman, wasn't keen on the what was written.
There have been another two attempts to bring the show to American TV, but both have been unsuccessful.
